Born and raised in Los Angeles California, Derrick attended Susan Miller Dorsey High School after graduation he furthered his education at El Camino Community College. 

In 1993 Derrick was introduced into the Sports and Entertainment Business of Marketing and Representation while employed at Mouthpiece Sports and Sports Placement Services in Malibu California an agency that represented professional boxers and retired athletes such as Joe Namath, Jim Brown, Sandy Koufax and Muhammad Ali some of the greatest athletes in sports history. He personally had the opportunity to work with Sugar Shane Mosley, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Muhammad Ali. As a recruiter for Mouthpiece Sports in his first year he assisted in the signing of 6 NFL draft picks with contracts and marketing deals totaling $10 million. The highlight of his career at Mouthpiece was signing the #1 pick Keyshawn Johnson in the 1996 NFL Draft and being featured in his book Just Give Me the Damn Ball. 

After a great deal of success with Mouthpiece Sports, Derrick Co-Founded Nationwide Sports a Business and Personal Management Company for Professional Athletes. During that time he worked with over 40 clients with career contracts totaling more than $200 million. In 2004 he was hired by Immortal Sports and Entertainment to recruit and acquire talent for their Sports Division. During his career Derrick has developed strategic partnerships with many established Sports Agencies and Wealth Management Groups to service his clients.  Derrick is a Licensed Financial Professional with Capstone Partners one of the top firms at Mass Mutual in the Country, where he assist businesses, professionals and Working Class families with Insurance and defensive financial strategies that preserve, protect and provide their income . Derrick has a strong passion for young people and believes in giving back to his community. He Co-Founded and is the Chairman of the Board for Nationwide Sports and Education Foundation a 501C3 Non Profit Organization, he donates his time with the National College Resource Foundation and is a active panel member at the yearly Black College Expo Athlete Symposium. Derrick is married and the proud father of three children.
